Today I watched two movie world premiers that will change my lifestyle a bit. 'King Corn' is a movie about the life and history of corn, specifically Liberty Yellow Corn #2. In the recent decades Americans diets have consisted more and more of corn through corn fed animal meat, corn oil cooked foods and high fructose corn syrup sweetened beverages and food. Liberty Corn is the largest part of our diets and it is a genetically modified corn made to yield a high crop at the cost of any redeemable nutrition. The biggest impact this movie will have on my life is that I am giving up corn fed beef. I will now only eat grass fed beef. Feeding cows corn has caused immeasurable pollution and waste. For my own health grass fed beef is considerably lower in saturated fats than corn fed beef. Corn is not in a cow's natural diet. It causes them to get diseases and tumors; however, corn fattens them up so quickly they can be slaughtered before they die an early death from corn. Thankfully I don't drink soda but this movie would have made me quit if I did. I recommend this movie to everyone since it affects us all. After the movie the director and stars spoke of the international implications, including switching other countries to the nutritionally lacking Liberty corn diet (including Mexico where their corn diet is actually nutritious).
After 'King Corn' I watched the movie 'What would Jesus buy?'. It was produced by Morgan Spurlock ('Supersize Me' guy) who was present for the premier along with Rev. Billy and the choir. This movie was about consumerism around Christmas time. After watching this I decided to stop Christmas presents to my friends and family (parents, husband, bro's, etc.). I will still give a gift to the kids in my life (niece, nephew, godchildren). NOTE: I also don't want any Christmas gifts from anyone! I think spending time together is the ultimate gift and battling crowds and traffic no matter how well intentioned isn't rational. This movie was FUNNY !! Go see it when it comes out for a good laugh.
Interestingly I thought these movies went well together because an ex-Senator (he implemented govt. money for corn farmers to grow all the corn they possibly could) noted how his efforts decades ago have allowed Americans to spend less of their income on food. So, after seeing 'WWJB?' I realized the rest of the income was going to more junk (minus the woman whose chihuahua had a closet full of clothes, that is very rational and cute)!
Other movie premiers I watched this weekend: 'The Unforseen' (GREAT movie about suburban development, very funny and sad),'Does your soul have a cold?' (about Japanese "utsu" or depression), 'Fish Kill Flea' (another movie about all the commercial junk in this world), 'Malta con Huevo' or 'Scrambled Beer' (chilean), and 'Suffering Man's Charity' (FUNNY!)
